President-elect Donald Trump’s choice of Tulsi Gabbard as U.S. intelligence chief has sent shockwaves through the global security establishment. Global security agencies are concerned that the sprawling intelligence community will become increasingly politicised after Tulsi’s selection. Tulsi Gabbard is seen as soft on Russia and Syria, this is one among several other concerns that are keeping the spy world on its edge. US’ allies are alleging that Trump has prioritised personal allegiance over political, and diplomatic competency, as per a Reuters report. Ex-intelligence officials believe that the top advisers could feed Trump, a distorted view of global threats, as per a Reuters report. As a result, the foreign allies may be reluctant to share vital information with the United States of America, as per a Reuters report. According to a Reuters source, the worry from US allies is that Trump’s appointments all lean in the “wrong direction”. Donald Trump on November 13, announced the appointment of Tulsi Gabbard as the Director of National Intelligence (DNI). Notably, Tulsi Gabbard is the first US Hindu lawmaker to be named as the country’s spy chief by Donald Trump. Trump has announced other key appointments for his 2024 administration including big names like Elon Musk, Vivek Ramaswamy.
