Protests against govt in Turkiye continue

Istanbul [Turkey], April 20: Numerous people gathered in the central Turkish city of Yozgat on Saturday at an anti-government rally organized by Turkiye's largest opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) in what is traditionally considered a stronghold of the president's party.
Yozgat, which normally supports President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's Justice and Development Party (AKP), has broken the stereotype, CHP leader Özgür Özel said at the rally. Several farmers participated in the demonstration with tractors, television footage showed. The protests are directed against the government and the actions taken against the former Istanbul mayor Ekrem Imamoglu, who was first arrested and then deposed.
The CHP has regularly called for protests since the arrest last month. They plan them every Wednesday in Istanbul and every weekend at various locations across the country. On Wednesday, hundreds of demonstrators gathered in Istanbul.
The arrest and detention of Imamoglu have plunged Turkiye into its most severe crisis in years.
